Butter Spreader Carving Sessions
Butter Spreader Carving Sessions
Wood carving for kids and parents/carers and adults alike!
Minety, Wiltshire.
£15 per person.
Age 7+
*Booking Notes - Please Read:*
Children must be supervised by an adult (no charge for adults who are just supervising), but I also encourage adults to join in; its a very therapeutic and bonding activity to do with your child and I find adults enjoy the activity just as much. If you would like to make your own butterknife alongside your child, please book yourself a place. This will ensure I have enough tools and wood for everyone who has paid to take part.
I have now added an adults only session too so that people without children can come along for the ride! :)
Saturday 31st August:
10am - 12pm - ADULTS ONLY (Fully Booked)
OR
2pm - 4pm - FAMILY SESSION (6 spaces left)
Details:
In this two hour session, you will learn basic greenwood carving and practice basic knife techniques to whittle your own hazel butter spreader to take home.
We will use sharp knives to whittle the hazel stick into the shape of a spreader. We will practice decorating techniques, either by carving, or using the pyrography machine to burn your design onto the wood. (See photos for examples).
Your spreader will be fully usable and not just for butter! Use it to spread your favourite toast topping; Nutella, jam, marmite and more! We can even give it a try at the end of the session by toasting some bread on the campfire.
If looked after, your spreader will last for years!
This course is aimed at age 7+ and parents/carers. However, I understand if you have smaller ones, it can be difficult to leave them at home. Under 7’s can come along to the session with their siblings, but unfortunately under 7’s will not be able to use the sharp knives, I can provide peelers and sticks for the little ones to make fire sticks to roast marshmallows, but they must be supervised. Please do let me know if you are bringing additional little ones along so I can make preparations.
The courses take place in the beautiful setting of Brandiers farm, Minety, Wiltshire. The workshops are run by me, Tamsin Quin. I have been teaching adults and children for over five years, and I’m fully insured, CRB checked, and first aid trained. The course will be held outside, so please wear appropriate clothing. In the case of severe weather conditions, we do have the option of using the barn, however, please note the barn has no heating, so please still dress warmly depending on the time of year.
All tools, safety gloves, and materials are provided. Maximum 10 people per course to ensure everyone has enough time and teach to finish their wooden spreader to take home.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
This is a hand carved wooden item and knife and tool marks may still be present. Please do not put wooden items in the dishwasher. Hand wash only with warm soapy water and leave to air dry. You may wish to oil your spoon every once in a while if it starts looking thirsty. A coat of food safe oil (tung oil, nut oils etc) will nourish the wood and keep it looking fresh.
